The signal of a device is low even though a repeater is nearby: why?

This can be normal. Devices typically prefer the most direct path to the Snugr gateway, even if the displayed signal appears low.

Key points

  • The signal level shown is the signal measured during the last successful communication. It may not reflect the current signal.

  • A low displayed signal does not necessarily mean poor communication: transmissions can still be reliable.

  • A repeater is not used all the time. It is mainly used:

    • when the device is out of range of the gateway,

    • or when the environment impacts radio propagation (doors, walls, metal cabinets, building activity, etc.).

Result

Even if a repeater is close to a device, messages may:

  • go directly to the gateway (R0),

  • or be repeated only occasionally (R1/R2), depending on current conditions.

To confirm which path is used, check the R0 / R1 / R2 indicators shown next to the signal strength.
