My sensor shows the red hourglass icon (communication timeout): what should I do?

The red hourglass icon indicates a communication timeout: the sensor has not communicated with your Snugr installation for too long.

Before you start: the signal level shown in the Snugr interface is the signal measured during the last successful communication. When a timeout is displayed, it may not reflect the current signal.

1) Check whether radio range is sufficient

Test (to confirm a range issue)

  1. Temporarily move the sensor close to the Snugr gateway (for testing only).

  2. Press the sensor pairing button briefly.

  3. In Snugr, go to Settings → Devices and check whether the last communication date/time updates.

Interpretation:

  • If it updates close to the gateway: radio range is insufficient at the sensor’s final location.

  • If it does not update even close to the gateway: the issue is likely power/energy related (see section 2) or a hardware fault.

If range is insufficient at the final location

  • Put the sensor back in its final location and try:

    • changing the sensor orientation,

    • moving the sensor by a few tens of centimeters to a few meters,

    • reducing direct obstacles (load-bearing walls, metal structures, technical cabinets).

  • If needed, consider a range extension solution (repeater / access point depending on the configuration). Contact your reseller for available options.

2) Check the sensor power source

Depending on the sensor type, low energy can prevent the sensor from sending messages.

2.1 Batteryless sensor (energy harvesting / solar)

If the sensor is batteryless, it depends on light exposure:

  • move it to a location with more daylight;

  • if the error returns despite good placement, the room may be too dark for this sensor type: contact your reseller for a battery-powered version.

2.2 Battery-powered sensor (CR1216 coin cell)

Some sensors can use a CR1216 coin cell to ensure continuous operation even when light input is insufficient.

If the battery is depleted (and the sensor has had low light for a while), it may no longer have enough energy to send messages: replace the battery.
